Cara Long’s suspension and pause is well-titled. The illuminated porcelain pieces and their accompanying studies give the viewer pause — largely because of the ways in
which their subjects are suspended.
The same faceless woman with dark hair in pigtails and wearing little more than a brassiere, panties, and striped stockings appears in each piece. Any eroticism that attaches
to the work, however, is most decidedly of the fringe — and beyond — persuasion.
